Habits That Can Harm Your Heart

The heart is the most important muscle in our body – his movement means life. Although, to all of us is crystal clear that we do not need to compromise when it comes to heart health. There are some bad habits that we hold in our lives and we are not aware that they harm this vital organ.

Surely you’ve heard that smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, stress, advanced age and family history are all risk factors for the occurrence of cardiovascular disease, but what you don’t know is that the following habits affect badly on the heart:


Intensive exercise – No one can deny the benefits of moderate exercise for our health, but extreme exercise can affect heart health. Typical intense training for athletes and long games are associated with heart failure and abnormal heart rhythms. According to experts, it is not recommended training to last longer than an hour. Particularly harmful is the habit of “weekend-exercise” for people who are passive during the working week and try to use the weekend for intensive training (till exhaustion).



Adore too much salted food – You have not even started your dish, and already searching for the salt shaker on the table? For many salty foods are more palatable, but salt is a huge enemy of health. Salt ingested leads to an increase in blood pressure, which can result in damage to the arteries and increasing the risk of stroke and heart attack. Control yourself how much salt you will put on the food. Favor other spices before the dangerous salt.



Do not clean your teeth with dental floss – You may be surprised, but the good oral hygiene not only helps to keep healthy teeth and gums, but also protects the heart. The risk of heart disease in people with gum disease is twice higher than in those with healthy gums. Despite the brush, the dental floss should be accepted as a compulsory part of dental hygiene.




You see the glass as half empty rather than as half full – Optimistic outlook on life not only improves your mental state, but also can protect you from heart disease. Unlike Optimists, pessimists often suffer from high blood pressure, high cholesterol and depression and are more prone to obesity. Laugh more often and always look on the bright side of life.



At least a few hours a day you spend in front of TV – Maybe several hours of TV marathons may act as a fun option for people’s free time, but the fact is that long period spend, parked in front of the TV receiver is harmful for your heart. Sitting for hours increases the risk of heart attack and stroke, even if you exercise regularly because the lack of movement affects levels of fat and sugar in the blood. Be more active, and if you have any paperwork that includes seating, use every opportunity to stir up.



Not limiting yourself with consuming red meat –  The fact is that people who consume too much red meat suffer from elevated levels of bad cholesterol and increased risk of heart disease. The risk is further increased with frequent consumption of processed meats such as sausages, hot dogs or pâté. It is best to limit your consumption of red meat to 70-90 grams per day. If you love meat, much healthier choice is white meat and fish rather than pork and beef, which contain more saturated fat.
